Over The Hill Cookies

I got my first order for over the hill cookies, I have never done this theme before and I was excited to do some thing different. My friend ordered these for a coworker of hers and she picked  out the sayings she wanted and then let me have free reign on the rest.

Excuse my white balance it was overcast when I took these pictures.

First up, the plaque to wish Layne a happy birthday. The stencil used in the picture is from Salsa Stencils. I used pearl airbrush with all the cookies in the set.

It's a birthday so balloons are in order. I used my petal craft dusts to do some shading on the balloons.

As well as balloons you have to have cake...in cookie form, right!

And of course the obligatory head stone stating you are over the hill. The cracks are the wet on wet technique dragged with a toothpick and shading with petal dust.

These over the hill sayings are pretty funny. Stencil used here is from Artfully Designed Creations and can be found here

I have a few chevron stencils this one I got from Michaels. This cute cutter is called the Jenn from Whisked Away Cutters and can be found here.

I really like how this one turned out. Shading was done by using brown airbrush around the edges.

And this is my favorite, I just love the long rectangle which the cutter is from Truly Mad Plastics and you can find it here. and the stencil is from Artfully Designed Creations and you can find it here

And here they are all together. I sure hope Layne has a great birthday! Thanks JoDee for the order.

CookieCon 2014 Artfully Designed stenciled cookies

Just a quick blog filled with a lot of pics!! Shannon from Artfully Designed Co. Asked if I could make some cookies using some of her 75 stencils that she is selling at CookieCon this week. I said of course!
Then I got scared when I got all the stencils. I really wanted them to look great for Shannon she just wanted to have some real life samples of what the stencils look like on a cookie.

So I got to work...this first one is the Thankul for stencil and I thought what am I thankful for?? Well my kithchen and CookieCon of course.

This is the first group I did. I did not love all of them so I redid a few...

These were the few I did over.

Sugar Dress and Stencil Cookies

I belong to a local ICES group and they meet once a month and usually there are a couple of demos by group members and then twice a year they have a day of sharing where they have 3 or 4 demos on anything involving sugar and a hands on demo. The last one was in October and a wonderful lady, Elena Odorizzi, who owns a local bakery supply store, Finishing Touch Bakery Specialties, was there to demo Sugar Dress.

If you have not heard of it before it is pretty cool. It is like sugar veil but easier. At least that is what they say. I have never tried out sugar veil but I was totally intrigued by this Sugar Dress and really how simple it was to use. Sugar Dress comes from an Italian company called Martellato.

Click this Martellato link to learn more about it and this Global Sugar Art YouTube video that shows how to use it.

A month later I decided to try it out and bought me a silicone matte and some Sugar Dress and went to work. It was really easy to do it works just like they said it would. You can prepare it two ways. One is just mixing it up and putting it in the mold and then letting it dry out all day long or you can set it in your oven on a low setting for ten minutes and then you put more sugar on and repeat twice.
I am pretty impatient so I went for the shorter route.

I used it on some black and white cookies I made for a event. Usually this lace is for cakes but you can use it on anything you want. And if you watch the YouTube video you can see all of its uses. This is what the mat I bought looks like. I went with this one because I thought it would work best for cookies.

There a other mats available and you can use the SugarDress in any silicone lace mat you have.

It is very flexible and is very easy to cut as you can see I cut out parts of the lace and put it on the mini cookies. It smells and taste kind of like marshmallows. You can color the lace any color you want you just add coloring gel to the paste when mixing it up.

I also did a couple of stenciled cookies with this batch.

Again check out Martellato or Global Sugar Art to find out more about it as well as this YouTube video by GSA.
