April's theme was April showers bring May flowers. This is what I came up with.

Balls of Yarn turn into Quilts

Got to love Facebook right, it is amazing the connections that are made from it. That Zuckerberg guy is so smart.

Here is my fun FB connection story.

So a woman post on her wall that she is needing some help to find someone who can make quilt block cookies. Then Kylie a friend of mine and skin care client sees her post. Kylie then is getting a chemical peel from me one day and we are chit chatting about my SweetHobby blog. She tells me about her FB friend who is looking for a cookie maker so I email her my blog address.

Fast Forward a few weeks later and I get a call from the Laura, the FB friend of Kylie, and she says she has looked at my work and wonders if I could do some cookies for a crocheting class that her friend Cindy from Skip to my Lou is teaching at a craft bloggers conference in a week.

I agree. First I was asked to do quilt block cookies that are found on this post  made by the talents of Eat Emily and Amy's Treats.

While Laura was talking to me she was unaware that Cindy had also found someone to make cookies at the same time so they asked me to do the balls of yarn and the other lady would do the quilt squares. My deadline was for Friday evening. I get a call Thursday morning, the morning my body decides to take a vacation, I was not feeling to hot. The call is from Laura, she informs me that the other lady got in a car accident and has broken her collar bone and of course there is no way she is going to be able to decorate cookies. Laura asks if I would be able to do an extra 2 dozen of cookies that are the quilt squares.......Confession time.....when it comes to baking or cooking I have a hard time saying no. I of course say oh yeah I can do that. Even though my body is saying umm no Natalie you can not.

Well I got them done, stayed up a little late but hopefully the class went well and I hope the attendees enjoyed the cookies.

The quilt square cookies on a almond sugar cookie.

The balls of yarn are coconut flavored icing on a yummy chocolate sugar cookie. These were pretty simple to make.

If you want to make the Granny Square Cookies, Eat Emily and Amy's Treats has a little tutorial.

Olympian....could be!

So April has been a chill month, only 2 n/n's this month. Anna at the beginning and now it's Brady's turn.
Cute little toe headed Brady, I dropped off his cookies personally yesterday because I knew the kids would love to play with Zach, Brady's younger brother and it would be nice to visit with my sister Kanani. The kids in fact were spoiled.  Zach, Sydnee and Brady all took turns playing with them. It was a great afternoon activity for them. Right before I left, I saw this cute picture of Brady and his younger sister Kelsey and thought, oh man that is so cute I am going to snap a pic of that and put it in his post.

Brady is the first born of my older sister Kanani. What can I say about Brady, well I have said it before that the first thing you think of when you think of the Wells family is swimming, and especially Brady. This kid has some abs on him and it is due to his hard dedicated swimming life. (Dang it, I should have made ab cookies, oh well.)  Brady has a swimming scholarship at BYU, check him out here. In fact just a month or two ago he achieved a qualifying time to go to the Olympic trials. He will do that in Omaha, NE in June. Sure wish him luck, it is very hard to get on the US swim team since they only take 2 people, but Brady's goal was to achieve qualifying time for the trials and he did it!! Congratulations.

The memory I have of Brady is one that I am sure he does not remember but I DO! I have no idea how old he was maybe 3 or 4. Anyway I was playing care giver for him and his younger sister while his parents where in Mexico on a vacation or anniversary trip. I was in college probably like 19 or 20 years old. Well the kids both got sick and they ended up having bronchitis, if you know what that is like it was not fun for Aunt Natalie to be taking care of them while the parents are thousands of miles away.

Brady and Kelsey woke up in the middle of the night coughing like crazy having a hard time breathing. What do I do?...... well I start freaking out,......then I start to cry..... not what you do when you have kids.  Brady starts to cry because I am crying, sister starts to cry because brother is. Lot of tears, lots of freaking out!

Can't call Kanani and Scott cause they are somewhere in Mexico and no one has cell phones back then. So I call my Mom in the middle of the night crying asking what I should do. Of course my Mom is very to the point and logical and says, "what do you want me to do I am five hours away from you, call your brother and have him give them a blessing." (Worthy male members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints hold the priesthood and are able to give blessings for the sick) So I do that, and also call an emergency medical aid number they had back in the day that gave you suggestions on what you should do. They told me to open a window in their room or wrap them up in a blanket and take them out side because the cold air would let them breath easier, which my mother also told me to do that. It worked like a charm and the blessing helped me feel better and we made it through the night. I took them to the Doctor the next day and managed to survive the rest of the week.

Now that I am a Mom I know the adult needs to be the calm one so that the kids can stay calm, lesson learned!!  Hey Brady don't get married and have a couple of kids and ask me to take care of them while you go on a vacation for a week. Make your younger sister Sydnee do it and she can have the freak out lesson. :-)

Now on to Brady's cookies. Another lesson learned on Brady.....don't try to make cookies on a day where you did not draw out your cookie plan, waste an hour or two shopping, have a playdate for kids, sprinkler repair guy comes, take a skin care client and then work your night job. End result was that I was not the happiest with these cookies. But Brady seemed to like them.

Not only are all the Wells children into athletics but they all have amazing WHITE teeth. I asked Brady once if his teeth hurt from whitening them because I can only have that gel on my teeth for five minutes at a time. He said you gotta live with the pain. They must have strong teeth cause man I can stand the sensitivity it causes to mine. Brady's teeth do not have divots in them but for some reason I was having major problems with divots in the teeth I made.

The teeth cookies were inspired by Cookie Crazie.

The BYU speedo of course for his swimming life.

Apparently Brady LOVES soy sauce and puts it on everything. In fact while I was there yesterday he put it on some potato noodle dish he ate so it is true! I think it might come from the two years he spent as a missionary on the Islands of Chuuk. (if you don't know where that is don't worry I don't either) Chuuk is one of the Federated States of Micronesia you can check it out here.

The Olympic rings of course for achieving his qualifying time to go to the Olympic trials. I know these are not linked...this is what happens when you don't plan it out ahead.

And the whole gang together.

Now I need to gear up for May. Six n/n's (the busiest month), my own daughters birthday, large family reunion to attend, and my night students graduation. Here's to hoping that the month of May does not KILL me!

Wilton Course 4

Back in February I started taking the Wilton Method classes at my local Michaels. You can also take them at JoAnn's or Hobby Lobby. I tool course two and then wanted to take course 3 but no one else signed up so then I ended up doing both course 2 and 4 in March. It was a busy Month. Course two was making all kinds of flowers out of royal icing and then we did the basket weave as well on a cake for the last class. Click here to see my cake.

Anyway the course 4 is advanced gum-paste and fondant, which really is just gum-paste. We made all these flowers below and then on the last class wired them together. The flowers are edible not sure I would want to make these for cakes, just buying fresh ones would be easier and cheaper for a customer to have on a cake!

Gum-paste can be pretty fragile especially with these flowers because you have to roll them out pretty thing. You can see on the flower on the right one of my petals broke when I was trying to add it too my corsage.

Show and Share Baby - Anna

So I am late with Anna's cookies her birthday was Monday and I had good intentions of getting her cookies to her on time. I planned to decorate them over Easter weekend while at my parents home but the weekend got away from me and I happened to forget my food coloring to color the icing.

Pretty sure Anna did not mind, she was busy this last weekend giving birth to her 3rd child. So happy for her and her family, little LilyMae is as cute as can be.

So I have mentioned that I have 37 n/n's, yes that is a quite a few. I may not be able to recall all their birth dates but I remember the first three and have been able to do so for about 30 years. The reason why well they made it easy. John was born February 9th, Mikkel, March 9th and AnnaMae April 9th. Easy peasy, too bad they are not all that easy to remember. :)

I was in 5th grade when Anna was born and you can imagine that a 9/10 year old is pretty excited to be an aunt. Well I was, and so somehow I talked my sister into bringing little Anna to school one day while they were in town visiting so that I could show her off as my show and tell. I remember feeling really special and proud that I was an aunt and it was so great to be able to show off Anna to my friends in class.

Anna now is a mother of three, such a hard worker who takes care of her family and sacrafices so much to take care of them in anyway that she can. She has always been soft spoken and very kind. I am thankful to be her Aunt and grateful for the great example she is to me. Lately she spends most of her time taking care of her children but the cookies show off some of her interests and hobbies that she partakes of when she has the time.

Reading is a passion of Anna's, something I think she inherited from her mother. Hope she is able to find some time to read now that she has 3 little ones. I will show a little tutorial below on how I made the book stack cookies.

Her favorite candy is peanut M&M's.

Anna loves to do acrylic nails and pedicures, so opposite of me so I figured some nail polish would be fitting.

She has always been athletic and softball is the sport of her choice.

Happy Belated Birthday Anna, hope you are getting some sleep and enjoy the precious sweetie you have been blessed with.

Baptism

Baptism cookies I did for a friend in my neighborhood. Thanks for thinking of me.

CTR symbol stands for Choose The Right

Asked Luke's Mom to take a profile shot of him and then I printed a page with multiple profiles of him on one paper. Then I outlined and filled with royal icing and let them dry. I think the silhouette cookie is a fun one.

In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, you can be baptized once you reach the age of 8.

A shot of them all together.
Got these all done right before we left for our Easter Vacation!

Easter

Finally got to do some cookies for Easter.

I have seen carrots all over the web and thought they were cute so I did smooth and textured ones.

A few weeks ago I was inspired by the decorated cookie with your peeking bunnies and wanted to do some too.

And of course I love everything from sweet sugar belle and loved her blue birds. So wanted to do those for a spring touch.

And the whole clan before my daughter started to sink her teeth into a carrot. Wish those counted as veggies, thrn I could for sure get her to eat them all the time! :0
